The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 4,778 groups with 7,058,059 members across the globe. It’s a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns and thus keeping good stuff out of landfills.

Finally, someone takes your old rechargeable batteries as well as cellphones, cameras, computers, power tools … all recyclable and all rarely recycled.  Check their Web site for drop points around Austin.

That old computer may be too slow for you, but it could be someone else’s work machine or school aid. This recycling partnership between Goodwill Industries and Dell gets reconditioned electronics to those who need them. (Just drop your old hardware off at any Goodwill.)
